$1.6K Identity Theft: Man Used Credit Card Left At Sloatsburg Service Area, Police Say

A 28-year-old man was arrested after allegedly using a customer s forgotten credit card to rack up more than $1,600 in charges in Rockland County, police said.

According to authorities, the card used in the identity theft was abandoned at the Sloatsburg Service Area on I-87.

Around 8:21 p.m. on Monday, August 11, the incident took place. at the Sloatsburg Service Area, New York State Police said on Monday, Aug. 18.

Raufoliana O. Louis Jean, 28, of Spring Valley, who worked at the service area, is accused by detectives of stealing a credit card that was left behind and using it to make purchases without the owner’s consent.

According to the police, Louis Jean subsequently used the card to purchase goods totaling $1,636.18 at multiple Spring Valley establishments.

A day later, on Tuesday, Aug. 12, State Police arrested Louis Jean and charged him with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree identity theft.

Police added that after being processed at SP Tarrytown, he was released on an appearance ticket that he was to return to Sloatsburg Village Court on Wednesday, August 27.
