22-Year-Old Columbia Student Among 5 ID’d As Victims In Horrific NY Tour Bus Crash

Five individuals were killed and numerous more were injured when a tour bus carrying 54 people flipped over in western New York, ending a picturesque excursion from Niagara Falls to New York City. The identities of those killed have now been made public.

The terrible event on Genesee County’s I-90 occurred at noon on Friday, August 22.

According to New York State Police, the bus, which belonged to Staten Island’s M&Y Tour Inc., went off the highway, overcorrected, and rolled down an embankment close to Pembroke.

When the bus pulled off the road between exits 48A and 49, it was traveling from Niagara Falls to New York City.

According to police, the truck overturned due to the abrupt adjustment, trapping and ejecting multiple people. Some casualties were evacuated to hospitals in Buffalo, Rochester, and Batavia after emergency personnel from all around the region reacted.

According to authorities, the car had no technical problems and the driver, Bin Shao, 55, of Flushing, Queens, who lives in New York City, did not exhibit any signs of intoxication.

The cause of the collision is still being looked into.

  • Shankar Kumar Jha, age 65, of Madhu Bani, India
  • Pinki Changrani, age 60, of East Brunswick, New Jersey
  • Xie Hongzhuo, age 22, of Beijing, China, a Columbia University student in NYC
  • Zhang Xiaolan, age 55, of Jersey City, New Jersey
  • Jian Mingli, age 56, of Jersey City, New Jersey

After all families contacted passengers, Buffalo’s Red Cross Family Assistance Center closed. Contact State Police at SP Batavia at 585-344-6200 if you have information regarding the crash or anything to retrieve.
