Authorities claimed that at approximately 11:47 a.m., troopers from SP Monroe were dispatched to the pond in response to a complaint of a potential drowning.

Police say the man had gone trekking earlier in the day with a friend in the Turkey Hill area. He then went to cool off in Turkey Hill Pond. He entered the water at approximately 11:35 a.m., swiftly went under, and never came up again.

Together with the Underwater Recovery Team and the New York State Police Aviation Unit, emergency personnel began a search. According to authorities, the person was discovered dead in 10 feet of water, some 20 feet off the coast.

Police said there are no indications of criminal play and the drowning seems to have been an accident.

Until his family is informed, the victim’s identity is being kept secret.
