23 Young Campers Missing, 13 Others Die After Catastrophic Flooding In Texas

Early on Independence Day morning, devastating flooding blasted over sections of south-central Texas, leaving nearly two dozen young campers missing and at least 13 adults dead.

In a news conference on Friday, July 4, state officials verified that 23 children are missing and stated that the Guadalupe River in Kerr County climbed a staggering 26 feet in 45 minutes.

A flash flood emergency has been declared in Kerrville, which is roughly 60 miles northwest of San Antonio, as a result of the region’s ongoing, intense rain, which has already poured up to 12 inches.

The flooding was deemed catastrophic by the National Weather Service.

Numerous cars were dragged into swelling floods, and homes, roads, and bridges have been wiped away. Additionally, a sizable outdoor stage used for Fourth of July celebrations was demolished.

23 of the 750 campers at Camp Mystic, one of the hardest-hit locations, are still missing. All 23 are female. Helicopters were used to remove the majority of campers.

The camp wrote to parents, “You have been notified if your daughter is not accounted for.” Your daughter is accounted for if you haven’t received a personal message.

The situation is still dangerous, according to local officials, even though dozens of people have already been rescued.

In a social media statement, Governor Greg Abbott stated, “The state of Texas is mobilizing all available resources to respond to the devastating flooding around the Kerr County area.” This comprises the Texas Department of Public Safety, the National Guard, sheltering facilities, and water rescue teams. Saving lives is the top priority right now.

Residents living close to rivers are being advised by authorities to leave right away. Search efforts are ongoing, and further rain is predicted through the evening.
