At 7:54 p.m., Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro said a 911 call informed officials of a fire on Hollyhock Road. Although the residents of the house had already evacuated themselves when the Levittown Fire Department arrived, crews still had to deal with severe fire conditions.

About 75 firemen fought the fire and put it out in 45 minutes with the help of the Bellmore, Wantagh, Hicksville, and East Meadow fire departments, according to a release from Uttaro.

The fire was characterized as challenging because of the extreme heat and humidity. According to officials, six firefighters were assessed for heat exhaustion on the spot, but none of them agreed to be sent by ambulance.

The house was severely damaged, and a nearby house was somewhat damaged as well. After an investigation by the Arson Bomb Squad and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire was determined to be not suspicious.
