City Tree Trimmer Dies After Suffering Critical Injuries On Job In Mount Vernon (

According to officials, a city employee who suffered severe injuries at work earlier this week in Westchester has passed away.
In Mount Vernon, the incident took place close to the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Fifth Street.
According to a statement released by the city on Friday, June 20, Juan Peralta Sr., a longtime employee of the Mount Vernon Department of Public Works, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, after suffering a serious injury while performing tree pruning tasks close to the intersection of 5th Avenue and 5th Street.
After being taken to the hospital and after emergency surgery, Peralta sadly passed away from his wounds.
“This is a devastating loss for the Mount Vernon team, the Peralta family, and our community,” said Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard on Friday. He also noted that his work ethic and enthusiasm for this profession, his family, and this city were extraordinary. His absence will be deeply felt.
Peralta contributed over 55 years of horticulture and arborist experience. He spent 20 years at the New York Botanical Gardens and 35 years at Alpine Tree Service prior to moving to the city more than ten years ago.
Beginning as a part-time worker for the city, he progressed to Motor Equipment Operator before working as a tree trimmer until his passing. According to city officials, he was well-known for his dependability, modesty, and strong dedication to public service.
The city stated that information about memorial plans will be made public as soon as it becomes available.
There are currently no additional information available regarding the incident that killed Peralta.
