That’s what a lot of Americans envision in 2065.
In a recent survey, 2,000 participants were asked to envision what life would be like in forty years. According to the projections, technology and practicality will have a greater influence on the future than luxury or custom.
Among the most startling predictions were that only 35% of non-homeowners think they would ever own a property, and 25% of respondents stated they intend to rent for the rest of their lives.
What about the price tag? It is anticipated that the average home will cost over $680,000, which is almost $270,000 more than the current average.
Retirement is also perceived as becoming more and more unattainable.
Nearly half of Gen Z respondents (those born between 1997 and 2012) say retirement won’t be an option at all, while 25% of respondents indicated they don’t think it will be financially feasible to retire.
How much would it cost to live comfortably in retirement in 2065? An incredible $3.5 million.
The survey, which was carried out by Talker Research on behalf of LevLane, shows how younger generations are preparing for and anticipating significant changes in lifestyle, technology, and financial security. Many anticipate the following in the future:
- A 30-hour workweek (rather than two-day weeks some tech leaders predict)
- A world fully reliant on digital currency and biometric payment systems
- Smart homes powered by AI
- Implanted health monitors and robot caregivers
Digital gloom isn’t all bad, either.
Gen Zers had a refreshingly realistic response when asked how they would like to spend their senior years. Almost one-third stated that they would place a higher priority on family and raising the next generation.
Others envisioned retiring to animal-filled hobby farms or seeing the world and beyond. Some even favored co-living communities with pals or living off the grid.
