According to St. Mary’s County prosecutors, Jontae Lamont Proctor, 22, of Leonardtown, will serve the remainder of his life in prison after being sentenced by two different judges for a three-month shooting rampage that involved a murder, an ambush at a restaurant, and gunshots into a house where a kid was present.

After being found guilty of three violent crimes in southern Maryland in early 2024, Proctor was given a life sentence and 94 years of active confinement, according to State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling.

Proctor participated in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man at Lexington Park on February 26.

He shot several rounds into a house containing a father and child on March 13, a few weeks later.

Then, on April 2, he shot another guy inside a California restaurant, badly wounding the victim.

According to the prosecution, Proctor was found in possession of a loaded firearm when he was detained in May 2024.

Over the course of several months, (Proctor) frightened our community with a series of increasingly violent acts, according to Sterling.

I hope that the victims and the family of the young guy whose life was senselessly snatched may find some measure of justice and serenity as a result of today’s punishment.

Two judges divided up the sentencing:

In connection with the homicide case, Judge Richard Bernhardt sentenced Proctor to life plus 25 years, with life plus 15 years of active confinement.

For the other shootings, Judge Joseph Stanalonis imposed an extra 115-year sentence, which included 79 years of active confinement.

With life + 94 years to serve, Proctor’s total sentence is 140 years plus life.

According to Sterling, our agency is unwavering in its resolve to safeguard the residents of St. Mary’s County and to bring violent offenders to justice.
