Here’s What s Keeping Millions From Enjoying Summer Trips

According to one in four Americans, their summer trip plans could be derailed by a surprisingly common problem.

Forty-two percent report having gut health problems, and 38 percent claim their symptoms worsen when they travel, whether they be bloating, constipation, or overall stomach pain.

According to a recent poll conducted by Talker Research on behalf of the health firm NBPure, 27% of Americans say they have digestive issues that are severe enough to interfere with summer vacations.

Forty-two percent report having gut health problems, and 38 percent claim their symptoms worsen when they travel, whether they be bloating, constipation, or overall stomach pain.

Nearly half of the respondents (49 percent) stated that they carry snacks, vitamins, or medication to deal with the dread of a digestive disturbance.

According to one in five, they have even missed important life events like flights, plays, or graduations because of digestive problems.

Another major source of stress is food choices. While 36% acknowledge choosing meals based only on potential stomach reactions, more than a quarter (26%) stated they won’t try new cuisines while traveling.

Nearly as many (40 percent) reported that they consider a restaurant’s proximity to restrooms when choosing one.

However, there is a positive trend: 69 percent of respondents say they take precautions to safeguard their digestive health, and 55 percent feel comfortable talking to friends or family about the problem, indicating that the stigma is starting to lessen.
