Due to unreported meat and poultry ingredients, a nationwide recall of ready-to-eat bologna products has been ordered.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture has announced that it is recalling over 143,416 pounds of bologna that were manufactured by Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc., a company located in Union, New Jersey.

After a complaint was made via the USDA Office of Inspector General’s hotline, an inquiry found that the impacted products contain meat or poultry source components that are not specified on their labels. This is an example of misbranding.

Between Thursday, March 20, and Friday, June 20, the items were manufactured and transported to wholesale and retail sites nationwide. Items that are impacted include:

  • Family Tree Bologna Veal (undeclared pork)
  • Babushka s Recipe Chicken Bologna (undeclared pork)
  • Fancy Bologna (labeled with pork, but includes undeclared beef and chicken)
  • Gaiser s Russian Brand Doktorskaya Bologna (undeclared beef)
  • Gaiser s Bologna Veal (undeclared chicken and pork)
  • Gaiser s Turkey Bologna (undeclared chicken and pork)
  • Chicken Bologna Kypoyka Paba (undeclared pork)

The USDA inspection mark on the recalled products is accompanied by the establishment number EST. 5385. Stores may have repackaged and relabeled some products.

FSIS has categorized the scenario as a Class III recall, which means it is unlikely to cause health difficulties, even though no adverse reactions have been detected.

Customers are advised not to consume the products, nevertheless. It is recommended that institutions and restaurants refrain from serving them. Items ought to be thrown out or brought back to the store where they were bought.

Customers with inquiries should reach Gaiser’s recall manager, Steven Shuchinski, at [email protected] or (908) 686-3421.
