A 19-year-old male has been identified by authorities as the victim of a sad drowning that occurred at a state park along the Hudson River in Rockland County.

Haverstraw Beach State Park is where the incident took place.

On Wednesday, June 25, at around 4:05 p.m., Eric A. Chugchilin, a resident of the Spring Valley, lost his life in an incident at Haverstraw Beach State Park, which is situated on Riverside Avenue in Haverstraw, according to New York State Police.

According to Daily Voice, authorities were notified at the time of the incident that a man had gone underwater and had not surfaced.

Investigators claim that Chugchilin and his companions were strolling down the river when he suddenly plunged into a gulf where the water grew too deep. Despite the efforts of his friends, he vanished beneath the surface.

The Piermont Fire Department retrieved him from the riverbank at approximately 6:20 p.m. According to police, the fatality was caused by an unintentional drowning.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, NYS Forest Rangers, DEC Police, the Haverstraw, Thiells, and Stony Point Fire Departments, the Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services Dive Team, the Westchester County Police Marine Unit, and the New York State Police and State Parks Police all responded to the search effort.

We don’t yet know more about Chugchilin’s life. Family members are encouraged to send an email to [email protected] with a message, funeral information, and/or pictures.
