The State Police of Pennsylvania
According to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police Skippack, the deadly collision occurred at approximately 5:26 p.m. close to mile marker 177.2.
When troopers arrived, they discovered a black Volvo SUV with significant damage to the front end. The driver was unresponsive and confined inside.
According to police, two occupants of a Chevrolet Cruze acknowledged their involvement in the collision. They claimed that a road rage interaction on US 422 some miles prior was the cause of the incident.
After the Volvo driver swerved into the right lane and brake checked their car, the Cruze’s occupants informed officers that they rear-ended the Volvo.
Police claim that as a result, the driver of the Volvo lost control, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. After being pulled from the SUV by emergency medical services and firefighters, he was taken to Pottstown Hospital and declared deceased.
Troopers arrested the Cruze’s driver for DUI after concluding during the interrogation that he was intoxicated. According to the police, as further research is done, the likelihood of additional charges is being assessed.
The investigation is being supported by members of the forensic services section and experts in crash reconstruction. According to state police, Route 422 Eastbound was closed for around two and a half hours.
