Cat Dumped In Carrier Near Reservoir In Southeast: Woman Arrested For Animal Cruelty, SPCA Says

According to authorities, a 57-year-old Connecticut lady was detained for allegedly leaving a cat in a carrier on a lonely road in the Hudson Valley, New York.

According to SPCA officials, the male, unneutered tabby cat was discovered in Southeast near the East Branch Reservoir along Old Milltown Road.

The disturbing incident started on Wednesday, June 11, when a good Samaritan found a plastic cat carrier with a male cat inside a wooded area off Old Milltown Road in the Putnam County town of Southeast, close to the East Branch Reservoir, according to the Putnam County SPCA, as reported by the Daily Voice at the time.

In an effort to identify the culprit, SPCA detectives opened a criminal investigation after the three-year-old cat was brought to the Putnam Humane Society in Carmel. They also posted an information wanted poster on social media.

Detectives located security footage from a Connecticut company that assisted in the identification of a suspect after receiving a tip from the general public. The woman reportedly confessed to leaving the animal behind when SPCA authorities visited Danbury and spoke with her.

On June 29, she was taken into custody and accused of abandoning and abusing animals. Her identity has not yet been revealed.
