Dirt Bike Rider Crashes At Ice Cream Shop After Fleeing Police At High Speeds In Red Hook
After leading police on a fast-paced pursuit through a Dutchess County village that culminated in a collision in the parking lot of an ice cream shop, an 18-year-old dirt bike rider was taken into custody, according to authorities.
At Red Hook’s Holy Cow Ice Cream on South Broadway, the pursuit came to an end.
The Red Hook Police Department said on Tuesday, July 1 that police discovered an unregistered dirt bike traveling south on Linden Avenue in Red Hook at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 29.
According to authorities, the rider ran through the village after refusing to stop when officials attempted to stop him.
The dirt bike was observed by a second officer on South Broadway, but the rider fled once more, allegedly traveling at hazardous speeds and using the sidewalks.
According to the police, the pursuit came to a stop when the cyclist lost control of the bike and crashed in the Holy Cow ice cream shop parking lot at 7270 South Broadway. Without incident, he was placed under arrest.
The rider, an 18-year-old village resident whose name was withheld, was charged with reckless driving and unlawfully escaping a police officer, both misdemeanors, and the dirt bike was seized. In addition, he was given multiple driving infractions.
He was processed, according to the police, and freed with a future court date.
