Police say that after a late-night stop at Wawa in Wayne, a 56-year-old man from Andover was found in possession of several firearms and possibly drugs, leading to his arrest.
Nieuzytek, Scott A.
According to a statement from Capt. Dan Daly, Wayne Police Officer Michael Sweeney made the arrest on Sunday, June 22, at around 11:45 p.m., when he noticed a 2007 Honda Pilot traveling on Route 23 North with a broken windshield and a headlight out.
Officer Gerard Parent responded to assist after the car was stopped in the Wawa parking lot.
According to the announcement, Sweeney saw what he thought was a crack pipe with burn marks on it and a prescription bottle that contained a white, powdery material that looked like illegal street drugs while he was talking to the driver.
According to police, a handmade knife was discovered in the back pocket of the driver, Scott A. Nieuzytek, 56, who had seven pages of municipal offenses on the NJ Courts website going back to 2000. According to authorities, a metal pipe with a knife on the end, a pick axe, and drug paraphernalia containing drug residue were found during a follow-up search of his car.
Police said that Nieuzytek frequently used derogatory comments about the officers’ sexual orientation, race, and families in order to harass them.
Nieuzytek faced the following charges:
- Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (3 counts)
According to authorities, he had previously been injured and was taken to a hospital.
According to court documents, Nieuzytek has a history of committing major and repeated violations in several New Jersey municipalities. The most serious charges include a theft charge for allegedly stealing movable items worth between $500 and $74,999 on June 5 in Morris Plains and an aggravated assault charge for allegedly trying to cause bodily harm with a deadly weapon on April 15 in Paterson.
According to documents, he was also accused of resisting arrest on July 25, 2024, in Green Township, by obstructing an officer from making an arrest. He has a long history of moving offenses in addition to these felony indictments. Nieuzytek received a citation for reckless driving that resulted in property damage, operating an unregistered vehicle, and driving without insurance in Woodland Park on August 9, 2024. On June 1, 2024, in Andover, and on July 19, 2024, in Clifton, similar insurance infractions were issued.
According to authorities, he was placed under guard until his hearing for remote detention, after which he was ordered to be freed while still in the hospital.
