Jury Reaches Verdict On 4 Of 5 Counts In Sean Combs Trial

Despite reaching four verdicts, the most significant one remained unresolved.

Combs, Sean

Jurors in Sean Diddy Combs’ federal trial informed the New York court that they have rendered verdicts on four of the five accusations against the troubled music tycoon, who is still being held in Brooklyn on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.

The most serious of the counts, Count 1: racketeering conspiracy, is the holdout count. If found guilty, Combs could get a life sentence.

Combs, 55, has entered a not guilty plea to all charges. After a series of lawsuits and federal raids, he was indicted in the fall of 2024 and has been in custody ever since.

One of the most important people in hip-hop in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Combs was a former Harlem party promoter who went on to become a chart-topping rapper, record producer, and wealthy businessman.

After starting its deliberations on Friday, June 27, the jury reconvened in court on Tuesday, July 1, to report its findings. Defense lawyers and prosecutors are currently working together to draft language for a potential judge’s order that would promote further discussions on the outstanding count.

The breakdown of the five counts is as follows:

  • Count 1: Racketeering conspiracy: no verdict yet (maximum sentence: life)
  • Count 2: Sex trafficking through force, fraud, or coercion (Victim 1): verdict reached (minimum 15 years)
  • Count 3: Transportation for the purpose of prostitution (Victim 1 and others): verdict reached (maximum 10 years)
  • Count 4: Sex trafficking through force, fraud, or coercion (Victim 2): verdict reached (minimum 15 years)
  • Count 5: Transportation for the purpose of prostitution (Victim 2 and others): verdict reached (maximum 10 years)

With his label Bad Boy Records, Combs became well-known in the 1990s. Since then, he has produced several platinum albums, won three Grammys, and started companies in industries ranging from vodka to fashion.

He is still awaiting information regarding the charge that could decide if he is ever allowed to walk free again.
