Storms Knock Out Power To Thousands Across NJ; Thunderstorm Watch In Effect Until 10PM
As storms passed across New Jersey on Thursday, July 3, thousands of homes and businesses lost power, according to JCP&L and PSE&G outage data.
Watch for severe thunderstorms
With 3,029 customers without power as of 6:15 p.m., Sussex County saw the most extensive outages, according to JCP&L. The towns most severely affected were:
- Sparta, with 1,724 outages
- Ogdensburg, with 404 outages
- Andover, with 298 outages
- Stillwater, with 210 outages
1,295 consumers in Morris County were without electricity, including:
- 646 in Chester
- 265 in Mendham Borough
- 136 in Mendham Township
PSE&G said that Camden County and North Jersey experienced smaller disruptions. These comprised:
- 251 customers in Westwood (Bergen County)
- 791 customers in Oaklyn (Camden County)
Service is being restored by utility workers. It is recommended that residents report outages to their power supplier directly and avoid approaching downed wires.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a number of New Jersey counties, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren, through 10 p.m.
