Scam Hits A Grand Slam At Maryland MiLB Ballpark With QR Code Con, Sheriff Warns

Fans may have lost more than just a ticket and hot dog at a little league baseball in Maryland due to a cunning fraud.

Stadium for Regency Furniture

Authorities are warning that the Charles County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a fraud case at Waldorf’s Regency Furniture Stadium where tampered QR codes were discovered on parking signage.

The modified QR codes sent users to a fraudulent website that took credit card information rather than the legitimate payment system.

According to officials, payments made via the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs’ official website and app remain secure, and the team was unaware that the signage had been changed.

It’s unclear how many fans might have been duped or how long the fraud ran.

According to the sheriff’s office, all of the parking signs have been taken down. As they continue to look into this incident, detectives are working closely with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs group.

It is recommended that anyone who used a QR code to pay for parking at the stadium review their credit card transactions. Give Det. Sgt. Hemsley a call at (301) 609-6562 if something seems off.
