Veronica Marmol Indicted In Hit-Run Killing Kevin Lawry

On Friday, July 25, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly revealed that a Queens woman has been charged in connection with the New Year’s Day hit-and-run that killed a man crossing Old Country Road.

Marmol, Veronica

The allegations state that on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 5:55 p.m., Veronica Marmol, 40, attacked and murdered 38-year-old Kevin Lawry in Plainview as he was crossing the street with a friend.

According to Donnelly, Marmol struck Lawry close to Floral Avenue while driving an eastbound white 2018 Jeep Wrangler and then ran away. After seeing the collision, a good samaritan called 911 and provided the police with the suspect’s license plate number.

According to officials, Lawry was declared deceased at the scene at around 6:02 p.m.

About two miles from the collision, close to Diamond Drive and Central Park Drive in Plainview, police followed Marmol’s car. Officers allegedly found about 1.66 grams of marijuana and ketamine in the car during a search.

Judge Helene Gugerty indicted and arraigned Marmol on the following offenses on Thursday, July 24:

  • Felony Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting.
  • Felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree.

She entered a not guilty plea. $10,000 in cash, a $20,000 bond, and a $150,000 partially secured bond were the amounts of the bail. Her license has been revoked.

Marmol’s next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2025. She could spend two to seven years behind bars if found guilty.

In the statement, Donnelly claimed that the defendant had hit an innocent guy who was crossing Old Country Road and had never turned around. As Kevin Lawry sadly drew his last breath, Veronica Marmol left the scene. Hit-and-run cases will be vigorously pursued by my office.

Under the direction of Executive ADA Kevin Higgins and Bureau Chief Michael Bushwack, Senior ADA Alexandra Russell of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau is prosecuting the case. Mitchell Elman, Esq. is Marmol’s lawyer.
