The Manchester Township Police Department reports that the collision occurred at the intersection of State Highway 37 and Commonwealth Boulevard at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24.

Officers discovered a black 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 500 motorcycle on its side in the westbound lanes with its front wheel pointed east and a gray bicycle laying in the intersection without its front wheel or fork. The 20-year-old biker, Connor L. Nolan, was declared dead at the scene, according to police. At the time of the collision, he was wearing a helmet that had been authorized by the DOT.

Kimberly Reinschmidt, 49, a Manchester resident, was the pedal biker who suffered severe injuries. According to the police, she suffered slashes to her left hand and arm in addition to internal injuries. As of Saturday, she was in stable condition after being transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

When Reinschmidt started crossing the street from Commonwealth Boulevard inside the painted crosswalk, investigators think the motorcycle was traveling west in the left lane of Route 37. Nolan lost control and crashed into the concrete center divider after the motorcycle collided with the front of the bicycle. The bike landed facing east in the westbound lanes after he was flung from it.

Early indicators, according to police, suggest that “disregard of a traffic signal and unsafe speed” were major contributing factors in the collision.

Emergency workers from Manchester, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, volunteer fire companies, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, NJDOT, and Accurate Towing were among the responding agencies. For hours while the investigation was underway, the road was closed.

Patrolmen Conner Yatauro and Anthony DeBalsio of the Traffic Safety Unit are still investigating the collision.
