Downed Pole, Brush Fire Closes Route 9W In Haverstraw: Here’s Where To Avoid

Due to emergency repairs and traffic detours caused by a toppled power pole, a portion of Rockland County’s Route 9W is anticipated to remain blocked through the night on Friday, July 25.

At Route 304 leading into Haverstraw, Route 9W is closed.

According to Clarkstown Police, the closure started at approximately 3 p.m. when northbound Route 9W was blocked in Haverstraw between Route 304 and Short Clove Road.

Workers from Orange and Rockland are presently repairing the damage on the spot. At the area, a brush fire also broke out, according to traffic reports from 511NY.

Despite early projections that the road would reopen in an hour, authorities warned in an update that the closure would probably last into the night.

Until further notice, drivers are advised to avoid the area and find other routes. According to the police, more information will be given as soon as the route is clear and safe to use.
