On Saturday, July 26, just before 8:45 p.m., Baltimore police received a report that the Walter P. Carter Elementary School pool needed a water rescue.

The helicopter had been on patrol in the neighborhood when it arrived at the school and landed in the schoolyard, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

When police came, they saw a man in the pool, and good samaritans were trying to help him by pulling him out of the water.

“Sensing the urgency and knowing the immediate need for life-saving measures, Foxtrot Flight Officer Hoover and Tactical Flight Officer Smith made the decision to land in the rear of the school,” according to a department official.

Before paramedics came to take over, crews managed to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a 25-year-old guy after exiting the helicopter.

The man is expected to live after being transported to a nearby hospital. On Sunday afternoon, his condition was not immediately available.
