Says
After dozens of safety bars on a well-known kitchen stool snapped, injuring two people’s heads, the stool is being recalled.
In July 2025, Dorel Home Furnishings recalled a kitchen stool.
On Thursday, July 31, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said that Dorel Home Furnishings was recalling approximately 302,000 Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Stepper stools that were distributed in the United States. In Canada, some 11,000 stools were sold as well.
While in use, the safety bars may break or separate, increasing the risk of falls. 34 instances of the safety bar failing were sent to the CPSC, including two cases where people were hurt in the head.
From February 2021 to July 2025, the stools were offered for $56 to $70. They were offered for sale online at Wayfair, Amazon, and Overstock in addition to being sold at BJ’s, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, and Walmart.
The Cosco logo is molded onto the handle of the steppers, which are available in white, gray, green, navy, and blue. One of the arms has a label with the model number printed on it.
Customers are advised to keep the stepper away from minors until it is fixed and to cease using the safety bar right away. Consumers can request a free repair kit from Dorel, which comes with installation guidelines, an extra warning notice, and a sliding locking mechanism to fasten the safety bar.
