Springfield Predator Gets Up to 13 Years In Prison For Repeatedly Raping Young Child

According to prosecutors, a Hampden County jury determined that a 57-year-old man from Massachusetts had frequently raped a kid between the ages of 6 and 8 and sentenced him to the next 10 to 13 years in prison.

After a three-day trial, Benito Roman, a former Springfield resident, was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault and abuse on a child under the age of 14, two counts of aggravated rape of a child, and two counts of witness intimidation, according to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

The judge ordered Roman to spend three years of probation after his release from prison.

Roman sexually assaulted the victim on multiple occasions when they were between the ages of 6 and 8. Roman told the child not to tell their mother, according to the prosecution. The child revealed the assault during an unrelated Massachusetts Department of Children and Families investigation years later.

The investigation, which included a forensic interview with the victim, was headed by Detectives Samantha Jones and Daniel Regan of the Springfield Police Department. In February 2023, Roman was indicted by a Hampden County Grand Jury. After being detained in Florida, he was sent to Massachusetts for arraignment.

Anthony Gulluni, the district attorney for Hampden, praised the child survivor’s amazing bravery for coming forward, testifying, and facing their abuser. Their fortitude and tenacity serve as an example. This sentence guarantees that the offender will be held responsible for his despicable behavior, and my office is still dedicated to supporting and advocating for victims of sexual assault.”
