Maryland Mom Stranded In Germany After Husband s Death Abroad Community Steps Up To Help

After her husband passed away unexpectedly while on a family vacation in Germany, a mother from Maryland faces an unimaginable sorrow and a lengthy journey home.

The Lees.

Sarah Lee’s family claims that when tragedy happened, she was traveling back to her own country with her husband, Alexander David Lee, and their two small children.

After a diagnosis of an undiagnosed brain tumor, he vanished in a matter of weeks, leaving his loved ones in shock.

Although Sarah and the kids reside in Maryland, she is still in Germany, where she is dealing with bereavement, taking care of her kids, and dealing with what organizers called a mountain of financial and organizational obstacles.

There is question about how much, if any, of the high expenses associated with emergency medical care, judicial proceedings, and other official responsibilities overseas will be covered by foreign health insurance.

For the first time without Alex, the campaign adds that donations will help with basic security, childcare, funeral fees, return flights to the US, and advance payments for medical and organizational expenditures.

According to organizer Lynnea Lau, he is survived by his lovely wife, Sarah; two lovely children, Henry, age two, and Hannah, age four; his parents, Sheridan, Scott, Beth, Rusha, John, and Patricia; and his siblings, Lynnea, Chase, Sam, and Frank.

The GoFundMehad received 185 donations by Friday, August 15, reaching $23,660 of its $28,000 target.

In an update on August 15, Lau wrote, “I just wanted to hop on here and say on behalf of the Lee and Westerhoff families, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Alex had a profound influence on our lives, as seen by the support we have all received, including donations, house visits, handmade meals, flowers, cards, texts, phone calls, and more.

“We are so grateful for the unwavering support from our families, friends, and our communities,” Lau said. Thank you.
