When shooting broke out inside a packed restaurant in New York City overnight, a night of celebration turned tragic, leaving 11 people shot, three of them dead.

Authorities said the incident occurred at Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 17.

At a press conference, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that officers responding to frantic 911 calls discovered commotion inside the institution, with victims ranging in age from 27 to 61, eight of them were men and three of whom were women.

According to Tisch, a fight between customers preceded the violence.

At the scene, three men—two of whom were 27 and 35 years old—were declared deceased. Tisch said he does not yet know the age of the other man.

Eight more people with injuries deemed non-life-threatening were taken to nearby hospitals.

Detectives discovered a weapon abandoned at a nearby junction and recovered at least 36 shot casings from inside the lounge as daybreak arrived.

Several suspects are being sought by investigators.

According to Tisch, New York City had experienced the fewest shootings and shooting victims on record through the end of July.

Of course, thank God, this is an exception,” Tisch stated. “This morning, a horrible incident occurred. We’re going to look into it and find out what happened.”
