Ronnie Sutton Convicted Of Murder In Shawn Usher Shooting

On Wednesday, August 20, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly stated that a man from Long Beach had been found guilty of murder after shooting a father six times outside the Channel Park Homes.

On Friday, April 7, Shawn Usher, age 33, was shot and killed in a parking lot of the Channel Park apartment complex in Long Beach.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Ronnie Sutton, 52, was convicted following a jury trial before Judge Robert Schwartz. He was found guilty of the A-I crime of second-degree murder.

In connection with the same case, Sutton had already been found guilty of two violent felonies: Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (a C) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (a D).

In 2025, the trial started on August 6. After four and a half hours of deliberation, the jury returned their verdict. On October 3, 2025, Sutton is scheduled to return to court for sentencing, when he might get a sentence of 40 years to life in prison.

DA Donnelly stated that Ronnie Sutton had every chance to end a disagreement with Shawn Usher, but instead he decided to turn it into a vicious assault. In addition to shooting Shawn six times, he reportedly followed the victim as he attempted to flee and hit him twice in the head with his firearm as he lay dying on the ground.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023, Sutton and Shawn Usher, 33, got into a fight in the Sycamore Court parking lot, according to the prosecution. Sutton took a revolver out of his jacket and started shooting.

According to authorities, Sutton pursued Usher as he attempted to escape and continued shooting until he passed out. Usher was hit five times. He is the father of twin boys who are nine years old. After giving him a pistol whip, Sutton rode out on a bicycle.

At 11:30 p.m., the victim was declared deceased after being taken to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital.

Sutton concealed the gun in bushes close to an East Market Street residence. A few days later, the weapon was found by Long Beach police. On April 19, 2023, Nassau County and Long Beach police took him into custody.

Under the direction of Executive Assistant District Attorney Kevin Higgins, the Homicide Bureau’s Bureau Chief Jared Rosenblatt and Senior Litigation Counsel Tracy Keeton prosecuted the case. Gregory Madey is the lawyer for Sutton.
