First Time Belmar Beach Trip Ends In Tragedy, Report Says: Jersey City Teen ID’d As Victim

The Muslim Center of Middlesex County and NJ Advance Media have identified Sameeha Sultana as the 13-year-old girl who drowned off a Belmar beach on Friday night, August 15.

Ishrath Parveen, Sameeha’s mother, informs NJ Advance Media that her daughter was traveling with Young Muslims of Jersey City.

Although Sameeha and her 12-year-old sister were not very good swimmers, she said they had always wanted to go to the Jersey Shore. Her mother informed the outlet that the party came at approximately 5:30 p.m., shortly after lifeguards had left their posts.

Belmar police reported receiving many 911 calls at 6:36 p.m. regarding a swimmer who was in trouble off the beach on 8th Avenue. NJ Advance Media identified the individual who was carried to shore as Sameeha’s sister, but Sameeha was nowhere to be seen.

According to authorities, she was discovered unconscious close to the 7th Avenue beach at 7:29 p.m. after Belmar ocean Rescue personnel entered the ocean.

According to authorities, Belmar lifeguards, Belmar EMS, and Hackensack Meridian Paramedics saved Sameeha’s life after removing her from the ocean. After being taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, she was declared deceased.

Her burial will take place at Forest Green Park Cemetery, 535 Texas Road, Morganville, after her janazah prayer on Sunday, August 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Masjid Al-Tawheed, 984 West Side Ave., Jersey City.
