The “11th Annual Flounder Pounder Open” took place at Paradise Grill in Long Neck, Delaware, from Wednesday, August 13 to Sunday, August 17. Jake Fleishchut, 16, of Kirkwood, caught the largest flounder.

Known as the “largest flounder tournament in the world,” the five-day competition attracted 2,200 anglers and over 375 vessels. Fleishchut won the top prize of $110,000 on Thursday when his 28.5-inch, 9.6-pound flounder touched down.

He served on the “One More Drift” with his father, Jeff, as the leader of a four-person crew. Even though the winning flounder has already been consumed, Fleishchut stated that he intends to save the majority of his earnings and distribute them to his comrades.

The rivalry was fierce, with teams from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey fighting for bragging rights, according to the tournament organizers. Pennsylvania’s Fleishchut placed his state at the top of the 2024 list, while New Jersey won the gold previous year.

Jake had been at the scales before. On August 16, 2023, he earned a $3,000 daily Calcutta prize for hauling in a 6.8-pound flounder onboard *One More Drift* last summer.
