According to officials, a Maryland State Police helicopter crew had to rescue a park visitor who fell 25 feet down a steep embankment in Charles County.

Trooper 7, based in St. Mary’s County, was sent to a remote wooded marsh region in Port Tobacco on Saturday, August 23, at approximately 6:15 p.m., according to the Maryland State Police Aviation Command.

Following the fall, first responders from the Charles County Department of Emergency Services, La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, and Charles County Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene, began treating the injured hiker, and assessed the severity of the injuries to conclude that a medevac was required.

According to officials, the AgustaWestland AW-139 helicopter was piloted into position approximately 115 feet above the rescuers. The hiker who fell from the tree was wrapped before being lifted up, and a rescue device and a trooper/rescue technician were lowered.

Throughout the hoist, the MSP Rescue Technician kept giving care.

After boarding, the hiker received cutting-edge medical care during in flight and was transported to a nearby trauma center.
