New Tropical Storm Forms In Atlantic: Here’s Where Fernand’s Headed
Greet Fernand.
On August 23, late Saturday afternoon, Tropical Storm Fernand developed.
Fernand’s forecast for Friday, August 29.
The most recent tropical storm in the Atlantic was formed southeast of Bermuda and is predicted to move over open ocean, which is a quite different appearance from Hurricane Erin’s rapid development and lengthy path.
Late Saturday afternoon, August 23, the National Hurricane Center released its first advisory, stating that Fernand was the result of a tropical downpour that had been heading north of the Leeward Islands. From Dominica and Guadeloupe to the US and British Virgin Islands, the Leewards span the northeastern Caribbean.
At this point, Fernand is less compact and broader than Erin, according to AccuWeather meteorologists, and quick intensification is not expected. Most showers and thunderstorms will stay offshore and away from the islands due to its early trajectory.
The system is not predicted to pose a threat to the United States because it is anticipated to turn north earlier than Erin did.
Indirect effects from waves in Bermuda should be substantially lower than those caused by Erin because the storm is expected to move considerably further east than Erin and is probably going to be smaller overall, according to AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva.
According to current forecasts, it might stay far enough east of Bermuda to restrict direct impacts to choppy waters and a higher risk of rip currents rather than powerful winds and a lot of rain.
Depending on its precise path, Fernand may move far enough north to Newfoundland, Canada, to bring with it periods of heavy rain, higher winds, and severe surf from late Wednesday, August 27, into Thursday, August 28.
Additionally, forecasters are keeping an eye out for any developments in other disturbances that are following Erin. Humberto and Gabrielle are the next names on the 2025 Atlantic list after Fernand.
The season for Atlantic hurricanes ends on Sunday, November 30.
