Americans’ Surprising Health Priorities Revealed In New Survey
Forget about precise angles and pursuing six-packs. Americans are becoming more introspective.
To help achieve that objective, many are forming simple habits like eating healthier meals, moving their bodies in ways that feel good, and improving their sleep.
According to a recent survey, almost 80% of people now put their feelings above their appearance, and they’re changing their daily lives to demonstrate this.
Seventy-seven percent of the 2,000 persons surveyed stated that their internal well-being is more important to them than their appearance.
To help achieve that objective, many are forming simple habits like eating healthier meals, moving their bodies in ways that feel good, and improving their sleep.
Growing interest in gut health and the mind-body link is reflected in the change. Indeed, 77 percent of respondents stated that their gut health influences their emotional state, and 86 percent of respondents think there is a strong correlation between emotional and physical health.
The results are based on a poll that examined how Americans are redefining health in 2025 and was carried out by Talker Research on behalf of Metagenics.
Top feel-good behaviors include:
- Prioritizing sleep (50 percent)
- Cooking or eating nourishing meals (49 percent)
- Gentle movement like walking or stretching (44 percent)
- Saying no to draining commitments (38 percent)
- Spending time in nature or connecting in person with loved ones (35 to 38 percent)
Five wellness acts are performed daily on average, according to respondents.
Others claimed to have even broken bad behaviors that make them feel worse, such as mindless nibbling, consuming highly processed meals, or staying up late without cause.
Probiotics and supplements are also contributing to the change in internal wellbeing.
Over half of non-users say they would consider taking a gut-health product, and about one in three now do.
Benefits for consumers include better mood, greater energy, better sleep, reduced bloating, and better digestion.
According to [Gulam Khan], executive vice president of marketing, North America at Metagenics, these behaviors are deliberate rather than merely habitual. More people are taking charge of their health and well-being by making daily investments in routines and activities that promote their desired emotional, mental, and physical states.
More over 40% of respondents reported that they had found a healthy habit that shocked them with how effective it was. This indicates that, in 2025, health involves more than just outward appearances.
