Armed Felon Leads Foot Pursuit Through Luxury Stores Of KOP Mall: Cops

Following a foot pursuit through the King of Prussia Mall, police claimed they had apprehended a Philadelphia man who was wanted for an armed home invasion in New Jersey.

A gun and ammunition were found during a mall search.

According to a press statement from the department, Upper Merion Police received reports of a stolen Jeep Cherokee seen in the Orange Parking Garage at 160 N. Gulph Road on Sunday, June 15, at approximately 4:15 p.m.

It was reported that the Jeep had been taken from Darby Borough. While Mall Security looked through CCTV footage to identify the driver, officers discovered it backed into a second-level parking space and started to observe it.

Patrol officers were given a description of the suspect by the police.

A man who fit the suspect’s description was spotted close to the Louis Vuitton store around twenty minutes later by an officer on extra patrol in the Mall Connector. The man disregarded orders to stop and raced into the mall as the officer attempted to stop him.

Before the suspect left the area at the Macy’s crosswalk, police said, there was a foot chase through the upper levels of Neiman Marcus, down to the ground floor, and back into the main mall. According to Upper Merion Police, he was safely captured by other responding officers.

It was discovered that the Hudson County, New Jersey, Sheriff’s Office had an active criminal warrant for an armed house invasion against the 31-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld.

According to authorities, when police examined the stolen Jeep, they found a Glock 19 9mm handgun with 13 hollow point rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.

The individual had a criminal record and was accused of:

  • Receiving Stolen Property
  • Evading Arrest on Foot
  • Firearms Not to Be Carried Without a License
  • Persons Not to Possess a Weapon

In order to await legal processes, he was brought to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
