As she was apprehended and taken into custody for allegedly trespassing at The Clarke Cooke House in Newport, an assistant attorney general from Rhode Island was seen on tape asking police to turn off their body cameras and telling an officer he would regret this.
On August 14, outside the Clarke Cooke House restaurant, Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan and her friend, Veronica Hannan, were arrested, according to video released by the Newport Police Department. According to NBC10, the arrest happened after police were summoned to the restaurant because of an unwelcome party.
According to a report by The Providence Journal, Flanagan’s actions in the video were deemed unacceptable by Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha, who also claimed that she had violated body camera regulations.
The Newport Police Department states that, among other circumstances, body cameras may be turned off upon request from a victim or witness and when the scene is non-confrontational.
