Law enforcement discovered the hard way that deputies take challenges like that seriously after a guy in Virginia allegedly downed a beer in public and said, “You’re going to have to catch me.”
Owens, David
According to the sheriff’s office, it began on Monday, August 11, at approximately 1:08 p.m., when a deputy was called to a disturbance at Stafford County’s Waffle House on Civilian Street.
According to officials, a man who was later identified as David Owens, 35, looked inebriated and was allegedly speaking improperly to female employees.
A fire marshal saw Owens strolling down Celebrate Virginia Parkway with a beer case in hand and observed him cracking one open in the middle of a promenade before the deputy arrived.
Law enforcement observed indications of intoxication upon making contact. Then something else happened.
The sheriff’s office said that after giving his identity, the man ran off, screaming, “You’re going to have to catch me.”
Before being arrested and taken into custody by deputies, Owens ran into the center of Warrenton Road and into Banks Ford Parkway.
He stated he rushed to get even with the sheriff’s office and acknowledged drinking all night.
Owens was detained at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond after being accused of public intoxication and evading police.
