Baltimore Gas & Electric is warning of potential disruptions on Monday and is requesting that some Marylanders conserve electricity.

There may be outages on Monday afternoon, according to a warning from BGE.

On August 11, the power company issued an advisory urging consumers to use less electricity in order to “reduce the potential for widespread outages this afternoon and evening,” according to officials.

What might be causing the possible outages?

Officials confirmed that an unintended disconnect from the BGE electric system occurred at a power facility.

“In addition to conserving electricity beginning immediately and through this evening, we also recommend customers prepare for a potential outage.”

BGE was attempting to fix 33 ongoing outages that affected 167 of its 1.3 million Maryland customers as of 2:00 PM on Monday, August 11.

“An emergency cycling event has also been activated to respond to system operations needs,” the business stated. “Your air conditioner will cycle up to your full cycling level (50 percent, 75 percent, or 100 percent) for the length of the event if you are a member of the PeakRewards Air Conditioning program.

“You will not be able to override participation in this cycling event.”
