Bloods Gang Member, Ex-Con Wanted By US Marshals Fights Paramus Cops: Police

According to authorities, a former criminal and member of the Bloods gang who was wanted by the US Marshals Service on several crimes throughout New Jersey was apprehended in Paramus after attempting to elude capture.

Danny Urena

On Thursday, June 19, at around 1:15 p.m., Paramus Police Deputy Chief Frank Scott reported that Paramus officers Jason Hrbek, Michael Cleary, and Matthew Orefice had arrived on Howland Avenue expecting a confrontation when they ran into Danny Urena, 32, of Passaic.

Scott claims that Urena, who was 6 feet 3 inches and 310 pounds, tried to run away, gave officers a phony identity, and kept flailing his arms and legs to hit the cops who were trying to control him.

Urena fled as the officers attempted to arrest him, leading to a brief foot chase and violent altercation before he was apprehended.

Urena has open warrants from the following, according to additional Paramus investigation:

  • U.S. Marshals Service
  • Asbury Park Police Department
  • Freehold Police Department
  • Hawthorne Police Department

In order to await a bail hearing, he was taken to Paramus Police Headquarters, where he was booked, processed, and remanded to Bergen County Jail.

As previously reported by Daily Voice, Urena was arrested in Paterson in 2019 when he drew a loaded revolver on two pursuing Paterson officers during a heated altercation.

According to the Daily Voice at the time, Urena confronted his partner for not returning home the previous evening after kicking in the door of her Elmwood Park garden flat in 2018. A SWAT standoff resulted from Urena stabbing and slashing himself before barricading himself inside.

Urena was accused of:

  • Three counts of aggravated assault on a Police Officer
  • One count of resisting arrest
  • One count of hindering apprehension, giving false information

Until a court of law finds the prisoner guilty, they are deemed innocent.
