Castle Hill’s Lawn Terrace named to top 100 hotel restaurants list

The Lawn Terrace at Castle Hill earned recognition Tuesday as one of

America’s top 100 hotel restaurants

, according to a joint study by OpenTable and KAYAK.

The Newport establishment was the sole Rhode Island representative on the inaugural list, which highlights hotel dining experiences that influence travel decisions nationwide.

The ranking comes as hotel restaurants shed their reputation as mere convenience stops for travelers. Nearly half of Americans have specifically booked trips to visit restaurants, according to consumer research conducted for the study.

“Hotel restaurants have become formidable players over the years as hoteliers have recognized the power of serving their guests memorable and locally-inspired dining experiences,” said Scott Hudson, vice president of global sales and services at OpenTable.

The list was generated from more than 10 million reviews from verified OpenTable diners and dining data collected between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025. Restaurants meeting minimum review thresholds were evaluated using diner ratings and five-star review percentages.

Consumer research shows 73% of travelers would return to the same hotel because of positive on-site dining experiences, while 38% have booked hotel stays specifically because of restaurants.

KAYAK data indicates a 51% year-over-year increase in travelers using the platform’s restaurant hotel filter, highlighting growing connections between travel and dining decisions.

The complete list features 100 establishments across 29 states and Puerto Rico, ranging from Michelin-starred venues to neighborhood favorites.

Research was conducted among American consumers who dined at hotel restaurants within the past five years. Fieldwork took place between May 31 and June 10, 2025.
