In Williams Township, a Coopersburg father lost his life in a motorcycle accident, the Northampton County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday, July 29.

Early on Sunday, July 27, 2025, James Richard Swinney, 47, of Coopersburg, was the only person aboard a motorbike when it collided at the intersection of Raubsville and Hexenkopf Roads, according to Coroner Zachary R. Lysek.

The coroner determined that the method of death was unintentional and that the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries. No other information was made public.

According to his obituary from Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, Ltd., Swinney, who was born in Lansdale and attended Southern Lehigh High School, was known to friends and family as Jimmy.He developed a profession doing what he enjoyed best—auto body repair—and finally went freelance.

He first rode dirt bikes with his father when he was younger, and he later became passionate about motorcycles, four-wheelers, and snowmobiles. He loved going on excursions with friends and was happiest working on projects in his garage. According to his obituary, he also treasured spending time with his devoted puppy and Stacey, who was very dear to him.

Along with other extended family members and friends, Swinney is survived by his parents, Jim Swinney and Debra (Koenig) Kurlowich; his stepmother, Kathy; his stepfather, Ed; his siblings, Heather and Casey; and his son, Jimmy Jr.

On Friday, August 1, from 9 to 11 a.m., family and friends are welcome to visit the Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, located at 135 W. Pumping Station Road, Quakertown. Following a funeral service at 11 a.m., the deceased will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Perkasie.
