Danbury Lawmaker Arrested Again On Shoplifting Charge: Cops
For the second time in less than two months, a state representative from Connecticut is being charged with a crime.
State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan of Connecticut
According to a news release from Bethel police, Raghib Allie-Brennan, a 34-year-old Democratic lawmaker who represents Bethel and Danbury, handed himself in to police on Monday, July 28. He was charged with sixth-degree theft.
Information on the purported theft has not been made public by the authorities.
On the condition that he show up for his court hearing on August 5, the judge discharged him.
Allie-Brennan, the chief majority whip in the state legislature, has been arrested twice this summer. He was originally detained on June 23 after being accused of stealing $26.69 worth of products by Bethel Target staff.
Allie-Brennan said in a Facebook post that he unintentionally neglected to scan the items at a self-checkout kiosk when he was in a hurry to see his ailing grandmother at the hospital. But according to investigators, store staff informed police they thought he had stolen things before.
After his detention on Monday, he did not post a message on Facebook.
In the state legislature, Allie-Brennan is currently in his fourth term.
