Boston (AP) Teoscar Hernandez hit a home run on Friday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-2, but Shohei Ohtani did not, for the first time in a week.
Ohtani, who had hit five straight home runs to tie the team record, walked, singled, struck out twice, then popped up foul to the catcher. Hernandez hit two batters for the Dodgers, including a home run in the ninth that put the score at 5-2.
Emmet Sheehan (2-1) struck out five batters in five innings while limiting Boston to three hits. Ben Casparius recorded his first career save while pitching the ninth.
Boston’s Brayan Bello (6-5) struck out five in 5 1/3 innings while giving up three runs, six hits, and two walks.
As the Dodgers made their second trip to Fenway Park since he was dealt to Los Angeles on the eve of the 2020 season, 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts did not participate in the game.
Bello ended the inning by striking out Hernandez and Freddie Freeman with runners on first and third and the Dodgers ahead 3-2 in the fifth.
In the fifth inning, catcher Connor Wong of Boston hit a double off the Green Monster. After hitting 13 singles in 90 at-bats in 36 games, it was his first extra-base hit of the year. On the last day of the 2024 season, he doubled against Tampa Bay for his final extra-base hit.
On Saturday, Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw (4-1) will take on Red Sox LHP Garrett Crochet (11-4).
