Officials confirmed Wednesday that an armored National Guard vehicle struck a civilian car in Washington, DC, resulting in the need to extract one individual from a wrecked vehicle.

First responders were summoned to a portion of 8th Street SE near North Carolina Avenue just before 6:15 a.m. on August 20 after receiving reports of a military vehicle colliding with another motorist.

A DC National Guard Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle (MATV) and a private vehicle were involved in the collision, according to government officials.

A five-vehicle convoy was stopped after the collision, and DC Metropolitan Police officers pulled over to help the other driver, who was pulled from the car and transported to a nearby hospital by DC Fire and EMS staff with “minor injuries.”

The cause of the crash, which gained widespread attention when a video was posted on social media, is unknown.

“This is currently an ongoing investigation,” spokespersons stated. “The DC National Guard and JTF-DC remains committed to the safety of our service members and the public.”

Although she hasn’t commented on the collision, Attorney General Pam Bondi used social media to highlight the number of arrests federal investigators have made since President Donald Trump’s crackdown on crime in Washington, DC.

“We have now made over 550 arrests in Washington, DC and have taken 76 illegal firearms off the streets saving lives,” she wrote. The US Marshals Service is providing a reward for any information that results in an arrest, so you can help. We’ll work together to restore DC’s safety.”
