Driver Killed After SUV Overturns On I-83 Ramp In Lower Paxton: PA State Police

Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday, August 17, that a driver was killed when his SUV flipped on a highway ramp in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County.

A PSP crash report states that the collision occurred on the ramp leading from I-83 North to I-81 North at 8:28 a.m.

According to troopers, the 2005 Honda Pilot hit a guide rail, overturned onto its roof, and failed to negotiate a right curve on the ramp. The SUV landed away from the road’s left shoulder.

South Central EMS declared the lone occupant, a 68-year-old Harrisburg man, dead at the site. According to police, his name will not be released until his next of kin is informed.

While officials investigated the incident, the ramp’s left lane was blocked until approximately eleven in the morning. H&S Towing took the SUV away from the scene.

At the scene, assistance was provided by the Colonial Park Fire Company, Paxtonia Fire Company, South Central EMS, and Dauphin County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is being led by Trooper Matthew Gordon.
