Driver Was Nearly 4 Times Legal Limit On I-87 With Child In Car In Greenburgh, Police Say

On Interstate 87 in Westchester, a guy was arrested after police claimed he was driving almost four times the speed limit while carrying a toddler.

According to New York State Police on Monday, August 18, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 10 at approximately 6 p.m. when patrol troopers noticed a 2015 Ford veering into the right shoulder of Interstate 87 in the town of Greenburgh.

Police claimed that after stopping the car, they found evidence of intoxication and identified the driver as Edgar J. Torres Flores, 36, of Mount Vernon. According to authorities, Torres Flores was later discovered to have a 15-year-old passenger in the car after failing standardized field sobriety tests.

Authorities claim that Torres Flores later gave a breath sample that revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.29 percent, which is almost four times the legal limit.

Torres Flores was accused of first-offense DWI, aggravated DWI with a child (Leandra’s Law), and additional traffic and vehicle infractions. According to police, he is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, September 5.
