Drunk Driver Caught With 4-Year-Old Child In Truck In Brewster, Police Say

According to authorities, a Westchester man is charged with driving under the influence in Putnam County when a small child was inside the car.

On Monday, August 11, New York State Police reported that a trooper had stopped a Ford F-350 on Main Street in Brewster for many traffic infractions at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 10.

Erasmo Garcia, 36, of Valhalla, was the driver, according to the police, who failed standardized field sobriety tests and had signs of alcohol. Authorities also stated that a 4-year-old child was inside the truck at the time.

Following his arrest, Garcia was brought to the Brewster barracks, where authorities reported that his blood alcohol content was 0.08 percent. The youngster was safely turned over to a sober third party in the interim.

Garcia has been charged with felony DWI with a prior conviction within ten years, misdemeanor circumvention of an ignition interlock device, and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under sixteen, which is a Class E felony under Leandra’s Law.

He is due in the Village of Brewster Court on Monday, September 8 at 4:30 p.m., after being released on traffic citations.
