Ronald Makszin Charged With DUI In Bristol Crash
A 30-year-old driver was arrested after an early morning crash that left one of his passengers seriously injured, police in Connecticut said.
Ronald Makszin
Ronald Makszin was heading north on Lake Avenue when he “failed to negotiate a curve” around 1:45 a.m. near Middle Street in Bristol, Bristol Police Lieutenant P. Krajewski said.
The Plymouth resident’s vehicle continued straight into the Terry Commons parking lot, then entered a wooded area and struck a building hidden by heavy vegetation, Krajewski said.
Makszin was able to get out of the car on his own, but two passengers were hurt — one of them seriously, the lieutenant said. The passenger who was seriously injured was taken to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery. The other passenger was also transported to be evaluated.
Due to the severity of the crash, the Bristol Police Department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (START) responded to process the scene. Middle Street and Lake Avenue were closed for several hours and reopened around 11 a.m.
Makszin was charged with the following:
- C.G.S. 14-227a – Driving Under the Influence
- 53a-60d – Assault in the Second Degree with a Motor Vehicle
- 14-235 – Failure to Keep Right on a Curve
- 53a-167a – Interfering with an Officer
- 53a-167c – Assault on Public Safety (2 counts)
He was held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond and presented to New Britain Superior Court, police said.
The passengers’ names are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Boisvert at 860-584-3036.
