In a heartfelt
letter to parents
on Monday, June 16, East Hampton High School Principal Sara Smith confirmed that several of the crash victims were students at the school.
“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I share devastating news about a tragedy that has deeply affected our school and community,” Smith wrote. “There are no words that can fully express the sorrow we feel for the family, friends, and all those impacted by this heartbreaking loss.”
The school has mobilized its mental health team to offer support to grieving students, along with additional professionals from the Family Service League and Hospice.
“We encourage families to speak with their children, to check in, and to let them know it is okay to grieve, to feel, and to seek help,” Smith said.
The devastating wreck happened just days after East Hampton High School held its graduation ceremony, on Thursday, June 12.
