FBI Picks New Headquarters Location And It’s Not In Maryland Or Virginia

Virginia and Maryland were merely abandoned.

Following years of public discussion and political squabbling over the placement of a vast new FBI campus, with Maryland and Virginia as the front-runners, officials revealed Tuesday, July 1 that the Trump administration has chosen to maintain the bureau’s headquarters in Washington, DC.

Officials selected a Greenbelt location in 2023 during the Biden administration, but that proposal was never implemented.

The Ronald Reagan Building complex in downtown Washington, DC, which is only a few blocks from the current J. Edgar Hoover Building, will be the replacement site, according to confirmation from the FBI and the US General Services Administration (GSA).

According to FBI Director Kash Patel, “moving to the Ronald Reagan Building is the most economical and resource-efficient way to carry out our mission to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution.”

For the FBI, this is a historic occasion.

Citing the expense and construction delays of constructing a new suburban headquarters, the GSA said that the Reagan Building, which is currently government property, provides a top-notch facility without the cost.

According to acting GSA Administrator Stephen Ehikian, the FBI’s current headquarters at the Hoover building is a prime example of a government structure that has accumulated years of neglected maintenance, with issues ranging from an aged water system to concrete that is coming off the structure.

According to the GSA, the action saves billions of dollars in new building expenses and save over $300 million in delayed maintenance at the existing Hoover site.

GSA Commissioner Michael Peters stated, “We are pleased to collaborate with Director Patel to enhance productivity and enhance the quality of space for a productive workforce in support of national security and taxpayers.”

Currently, US Customs and Border Protection and other federal tenants occupy the Reagan Building. During the FBI changeover, GSA stated that it will keep working with such agencies.
