Following US military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, federal officials are warning that the threat of Iranian sleeper cells within the United States has increased.

In the US or other Western countries, sleeper cells are terrorists or spies who do not act until directed to do so. According to intelligence authorities, Iran has long used this strategy to forward its plans against international targets.
According to a memo sent by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott on Saturday, June 21, which NewsNation and sister publication The Hill were able to obtain, thousands of Iranian nationals have been found to have entered the country illegally, and countless more are probably in the known and unknown get-aways.
The possibility of supporters or sleeper cells acting independently or at Iran’s request has never been greater, Scott continued, even though we have not yet received any particular, serious threats to share with you all.
The message also asked CBP staff to be on the lookout.
In a similar warning, the Department of Homeland Security said Iran continues to target US officials, both past and present, and is still the leading supporter of terrorism.
