Dozens Of Families Displaced After Baldwin Apartment Fire
After a huge fire at an apartment complex on Long Island, several individuals had to leave their homes.
The scene of a Thursday morning, June 26 apartment fire on Baldwin’s Merrick Road.
At around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, Baldwin emergency personnel arrived at Merrick Road close to Lakeside Drive in response to reports of a fire in a three-story apartment complex.
According to social media posts, firefighters from several agencies, including the Garden City, Baldwin, and Bethpage fire departments, arrived on the scene.
As firefighters utilized ladders to reach the top, images posted on Facebook by LI Fire Buff revealed a dense cloud of black smoke rising from the back of the structure.
Doug Eberhart, the fire chief for Baldwin, stated that although everyone escaped safely, scores of families were forced to relocate. Heat exhaustion was treated for three firefighters.
The Red Cross was helping those affected by the fire.
According to Nassau County Police, the building is being condemned because it partially collapsed in many spots.
The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent.
